Unless otherwise stated, GP events are open to all members and their guests. Be sure to book your lodging dates well in advance! And an R.S.V.P. will help make these events a success.

3/7: Wine & Cheese

We’ve expanded last year’s Tying & Tasting Event. This year one of GP’s own, Chad Rosenberg, will share his extensive knowledge of cheese, with some excellent wine pairings thrown in for good measure. Dinner and dessert will follow.

Scott Cesari, PA State Fly Tying Champion and Federation of Fly Fishers World Champion, will join last year's fly tying instructors, George Maciag, and GP’s Chuck Cutshall, for a fun and productive day of tutoring.

  • Saturday at Turnaround:
  • 10 a.m. to Noon – Fly tying instruction
  • 5 p.m. – Cheese and wine festivities
  • 7 p.m. – Dinner
4/2: Fly Fishing “How-To’s” with Gary Borger**

From matching the hatch to presentation, enjoy learning from one of the best in the world of fly fishing.

Morning Session
  • 8:30 - 9:30: Breakfast and Introduction to the day
  • 9:30 - 10:00: Knots, Intro (other knots throughout the day)
  • 10:00 - 11:00: Reading the Water
  • 11:00 - 11:30: Break and Q&A
  • 11:30 - 12:30: Casting Demo
Afternoon Session
  • 12:30 - 1:30: Lunch
  • 1:30 - 2:00: Casting - The Grip, Foundation Casting Stroke
  • 2:00 - 3:00: Really Matching the Hatch
  • 3:00 - 3:30: Break and Q&A
  • 3:30 - 4:30: Casting - The Reaches
  • 4:30 - 5:30: Presentation

4/18: Opening Day Breakfast

Although trout season is always open at Graystones Preserve, join us for a delicious, hot breakfast on the official opening day of trout season. Angler or not, you’ll have a great time.  Enjoy a BYOB gathering at Hemlock the night before, at around 7:30 p.m.

  • Saturday 9:00 a.m. – Breakfast at Hemlock
5/29 & 30: Ed Jaworowski Fly Fishing Clinic**
Learning from this celebrated fly fishing professional will be a pleasure. Don’t miss this opportunity to introduce someone to the sport, or refine your own skills.
  • Friday 7:00 p.m. – “Meet & Greet” with casual presentation, BYOB; at Turnaround
  • Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Casting clinic, lunch provided
  • (Group size is limited to 15)

*Rain date for Saturday’s clinics will be Sunday, 5/31.

GP Seasonal Nature Hikes

We’ll be exploring some favorite GP trails to discover the changes each season brings. Bring a camera and a sense of adventure!

  • June 6: The “Mountain laurel” hike.
  • August 8: The “Grass is greener” hike.
  • October 10: The “Color burst” hike.
  • December 5: The “Wear your woolies” hike.

*Rain dates will be the following day for each hike.

8/22: Birdhouse Build

This is a fun activity for the kids. We’ll have two birdhouse patterns to put together; one for the Eastern bluebird, the other for the American kestrel. When they’re finished we’ll take a hike and mount them in place. Be sure to note where they are and keep tabs next spring. The bluebirds may even use the house for wintering over.

Saturday 10 a.m. – Birdhouse building at the Game Room.

Instructor: Ron DeLong, creative multimedia artist and experienced education consultant.
