Welcome to Graystones Preserve

Guiding and Lessons

Graystones Preserve offers members and their guests a full range of guiding and fly fishing instruction. The lessons explore more than casting. Incorporated into the courses are fly tying, insect identification, matching the hatch, reading water, proper fish handling and more.

There are three ponds along the meadow that offer excellent opportunities for youngsters to develop fishing skills. Those 12 and under may use both fly and conventional tackle while learning, however the single barbless hooks and catch and release policies still apply.

Joe DeMarkis / Rivers Outdoor Adventures - We are one of only a few guide services in the area that can really offer guide services on a full time basis. Our fleet of six drift boats and fishing rafts ensure that we are able to offer a safe comfortable trip in the highly variable conditions that we face on the Lehigh River. In addition to PA's best drift boat fly fishing we are also happy to offer quality wade fishing opportunities on public and private water ranging from spring creeks to tiny mountain freestoners. Trips can be mixed together or combined with fly fishing schools for extended fishing holidays. Why are our fly fishing schools the best? They feature private or small group instruction by friendly, experienced guides and instructors in a relaxed setting. You will not be placed in a school with ten or twenty people and try to learn hands on skills from one person because that's a frustrating situation and our goal is to have you leave your school with a positive outlook on flyfishing and the skills you need to fish on your own. We have taught these schools for over a decade and as a result our former students are now our best customers and clients because they have come to recognize that the same level of expertise and commitment that goes into our schools goes into everything we do.

George Maciag has been fly fishing since the early 1960's and his love of fishing grew into a passion for the art of fly tying. Over the years he has shared his love of fly tying with countless students. Currently, George is the principal fly tying instructor at the LL Bean store in Center Valley PA and he is also a PA certified fly fishing guide. In addition, he has taught at several other Pennsylvania fly shops. With 35 years under his belt as a high school and community college biology teacher, George has blended the art, science, and mechanics of fly tying into an enjoyable, easy-to-understand curriculum. George is also a valuable resource for nature lovers and can provide informal walks on the Graystones property to study birds, bugs and other wildlife.

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned angler, Graystones Preserve offers the opportunity to enhance your fly fishing skills. Guiding services are available to members for both private and group instruction. We are pleased to help you and your family, guests, and business associates master the art of fly fishing.
